Maintaining the monastery, caring for its monuments, and running the schools and social care homes is a shared undertaking. Every contribution supports that work.
Whichever you choose, your contribution stays on the hill — it supports the care of the monuments, the schools and the social care homes.
The simplest way: it costs you nothing, because you are directing money already paid. Our tax number: 18535796-1-08.

A thousand monks, teachers, students, supporters and colleagues have joined the work of Pannonhalma Archabbey over the centuries. It is now our turn to carry it on.
We believe that in helping those in need we serve Christ himself. Our Caritas organisation works across the Archabbey's 15 parishes to ease the daily lives of the sick, the elderly, people with disabilities, those living with addiction, the homeless, the disadvantaged and refugees. We run a summer camp for children in need, help them back to school with supply packages, provide food and hot meals, and supply seed.
Our teaching is as old as the monastery. In 996 “a school for the Lord's service” rose on the hill of St Martin, following the Rule of St Benedict. The legend of St Emeric records the first parents' meeting, when St Stephen and Gisela came to visit and met the youngest teacher, St Maurus — and for a few years St Gerard also served on the teaching staff.
The monks of Pannonhalma have practised medicine and grown medicinal herbs since the foundation; healing brothers lived on the hill continuously until 1786. The Herb Garden grows more than thirty medicinal plants today. The Arboretum's outstanding value is its collection of species from five continents. The nature reserve has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1996.
Our library is Hungary's oldest collection — a charter of St Ladislaus from around 1090 already lists 70–80 codices, and today we hold some 400,000 volumes. The archive holds one of the richest collections of charters from the first centuries of the Hungarian state; its earliest item is the monastery's charter of privileges from St Stephen (1001). Our museum cares for numismatic, archaeological and natural-history collections, a picture gallery and the treasury.
That the same monastic order still lives and works within these walls — the order for which Prince Géza founded the monastery in 996 — is also thanks to those who in every age took our community on their shoulders: who prayed for us, encouraged us, named our challenges and supported our survival. We are grateful for your support.
